Special Election in 23B: Meet the Republican Endorsed Candidate Jeremy Munson

Lake Crystal, MN – Jeremy Munson received the Republican Party endorsement to replace State Representative Tony Cornish. Delegates from Blue Earth, Waseca, Watonwan and Le Suer Counties chose Munson over Watonwan County Commissioner Scott Sanders. Jeremy easily won the endorsement on the first ballot.

Joe Steck from the Mankato Times reported that Munson said “I want to thank Scott Sanders for running a good race. He too is a stand-up guy that I like a lot,” said Munson “I promise three things. To never stop working to get things done at the Capitol, to be accessible and listen to you and to always work to make the voices of rural Minnesota heard.”

The general election is on February 12th, however, there will be a primary on January 8th. More candidates can still file to challenge Jeremy.

Munson is a well-respected activist since 1995. Most recently he served as the chair of the First Congressional District Republican Party. If he wins he is expected to be a reliable conservative, and to be a fiscal hawk.

Mankato Times also reported that Jim Hagedorn was there to show his support. “This is a very important district in southern Minnesota. We have been working hard with the local Republican parties in the four counties that are represented to make sure we elect every Republican. They have been kind to me and I am going to throw my support right back”.

State GOP Chair Jennifer Carnahan was also at the convention and was very optimistic about GOP chances.

Rep. Paul Torkelson supported Scott Sanders and it unclear if Speaker Kurt Daudt and the House Republican Campaign Committee support Munson or if they are recruiting a primary challenger.
