(Daily Caller News Foundation) — Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel said on Monday that his agency obtained a texting chain where alleged assassin Tyler Robinson told a friend he planned on killing Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
The FBI received a text message chain between Robinson and his trans-identifying boyfriend, Lance Twiggs, along with other cellular information “in record time.” Robinson told one individual that he was going to kill Kirk because of his “hatred” for the Turning Point USA founder’s views, Patel said on “Fox & Friends.”
“[Robinson] had a text message exchange, he, the suspect, with another individual in which he claimed that he had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and he was going to do it because of his hatred for what Charlie stood for,” Patel said.
It is currently unknown why the other individual did not report Robinson’s plans to authorities. Patel assured that the FBI’s investigation into the case is still ongoing.
Patel said that many of Robinson’s family members and friends have already been spoken to, including his live-in transgender partner. His family confirmed to the FBI that Robinson had subscribed to left-wing ideology and had become increasingly hateful in recent years.
“I believe in this instance of such public importance [that] the public has a right to know and I told you I’m committed to transparency and that’s what I’m doing here today,” Patel said.
There is forensic evidence that Robinson wrote a now-destroyed note that said he was going to take his opportunity to kill Kirk, Patel added.
Several individuals who spoke to Robinson in a Discord chat are expected to be interviewed as well, Patel said. Several friends in the Discord chat confronted Robinson after photographs of him appeared on the news, prompting the 22-year-old suspect to falsely state that his “doppelgänger” was trying to get him in trouble.
An acquaintance tagged Robinson in the group chat on Thursday and asked where he was, while another user wrote “Tyler killed Charlie!!!!,” according to Discord messages obtained by The New York Times. The messages were sent just hours before Robinson’s arrest.
Robinson’s partner was a male identifying as a female who publicly supported former President Joe Biden and described himself as a “former Christian,” the New York Post reported. Robinson also allegedly had a “furry” fixation and had an account on FurAffinity.net, a website where users post art of anthropomorphic animal characters.
