Three Minnesota physicians were responsible for more than 3,200 abortions in 2024, according to a report from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). That stunning figure was one of many revealed in MDH’s annual abortion report.

Under Minnesota law, MDH is required to publish an annual report that documents abortion statistics in Minnesota. Last week, the state agency published its newest report which tracked abortion statistics for the 2024 calendar year.

Among other things, the report documents the number of abortions that occurred, the type of abortion that was performed, the clinics that performed those abortions, and information on how many abortions were performed per physician.

MDH’s report used to document the reasons why an abortion was induced and whether a baby was born alive during an attempted abortion. Information about the fate of the born-alive infants, and measures taken to preserve their lives, also used to be in the report.

However, Democrats removed those reporting requirements in 2023.

According to the new report, 13,729 abortions were performed in Minnesota in 2024. The majority of them (8,052), were performed at Planned Parenthood facilities throughout the state. Other facilities that performed abortions include the Red River Women’s Clinic, the Women’s Health Center, and Whole Woman’s Health, LLC.

Despite the medical imperative to “do no harm,” there were 233 physicians who induced abortions in Minnesota in 2024. A significant portion of those physicians were responsible for inducing hundreds of abortions.

One individual, identified only as Physician C, induced 1,072 abortions during the course of 2024. Another person, identified as Physician H, induced 1,204 abortions that year. Finally, an individual called Physician CC induced 1,055 abortions in 2024.

As such, Physician C, Physician H, and Physician CC, averaged roughly three abortions per day across 2024. Data identifying those physicians is held by MDH but was not included in the report as such data is considered private under Minnesota law.

Of the 13,729 abortions that occurred in Minnesota, 4,495 abortions were done via surgical methods. Another 3,985 abortions were performed via mifepristone, a drug that induces an abortion. The MDH report notes that 5,190 abortions were induced by “other medication (includes labor induction).”

A majority (7,363) of the women who received abortions were between the ages of 20 and 29 years old. Nearly 12,000 women who had abortions were admitted to a clinic when they sought an abortion.

Of the 13,729 abortions that occurred, 10,969 were performed on Minnesota residents while the remaining total came from out of state. Many of the out-of-state women traveled from North Dakota (898), Wisconsin (754), Iowa (524), and South Dakota (371).

According to the report, 3,699 of the babies who died by abortion in 2024 were cremated, and 44 received a burial. The report says 9,986 of the babies had “no fetal remains.”

Additionally, 11,639 of the babies who died by abortion in 2024 were in their first trimester when the abortion occurred. Another 1,100 babies were in their second trimester when the abortion took place, and two babies were in their third trimester. However, the report says the gestational age for 988 of the babies was “not reported.”
