Former President Donald Trump endorsed Republican Joe Teirab Saturday night in his campaign against Minnesota Congresswoman Angie Craig.
“A Marine Corps Veteran and Former Federal Prosecutor, Joe will be a tireless fighter in Congress who will work hard to Grow the Economy, Stop Inflation, Uphold the Rule of Law, Secure the Border, Promote American Energy, Stand with our Great Military/Vets, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment. He is also supported by my friend, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, and many other Highly Respected Leaders in Minnesota,” Trump said in an endorsement posted on his Truth Social platform.
Teirab’s campaign said the endorsement reinforces the Second Congressional District’s status as a top pick-up opportunity for Republicans this cycle. The district, widely considered to be Minnesota’s last true “swing district,” has been represented by Democrat Angie Craig since 2018.
“I was honored to deploy to Iraq in support of President Trump’s Operation Inherent Resolve to defeat and destroy ISIS. I was honored to work in President Trump’s Justice Department as an Assistant U.S. Attorney where I put some of Minnesota’s worst and most violent criminals behind bars. And I will be honored to serve in Congress to help President Trump get our country back on track. Thank you, President Trump, for your support,” Teirab said in a statement.
The Marine veteran lost the Republican Party’s endorsement to defense attorney Tayler Rahm earlier this year. Rahm, however, suspended his campaign last month to join Trump’s Minnesota operation. Despite this, Minnesota CD2 Republicans said in a recent letter to party activists that Rahm remains the endorsed candidate for the Aug. 13 primary election and will still appear on the ballot.
Although he was the endorsed candidate, Rahm wasn’t able to keep pace with Teirab’s fundraising numbers. Campaign finance records show Teirab has raised $1.7 million through July, whereas Rahm took in about $420,000. Craig has raised just over $6 million for her reelection effort. The 2022 contest for the seat was the most expensive congressional race in state history.
Teirab was recently added to the National Republican Congressional Committee’s “Young Gun” program, which mentors and supports candidates in competitive races across the country.
“Extreme House Democrat Angie Craig has fueled the border, crime and cost of living crises that are wreaking havoc on Minnesotans’ safety and security,” NRCC spokesman Mike Marinella said. “Joe Teirab is in a prime position to flip Minnesota’s Second District red and help grow our House majority in November.”
