Trump reignites Ilhan Omar’s marriage controversy: ‘Throw her the hell out’

"Well, if that's true, she shouldn't be a congressman, and we should throw her the hell out of the country," the president said.

President Donald Trump called out Rep. Ilhan Omar, D–Minn., aboard Air Force One on Sunday, arguing she should be deported if allegations she married her brother to secure his entry into the United States turn out to be true.

Trump’s comments were in response to questions about his administration’s immigration policies and the indefinite pause in processing asylum applications amid heightened national security concerns following the shooting of two National Guard members by an Afghan national.

The president argued that the U.S. has been far too lenient toward people coming from unstable or hostile nations, and then pointed to Somalia as an example of a collapsed state.

“Many are no good and they shouldn’t be in our country,” Trump said. “People from different countries that are not friendly to us. Countries like Somalia, that have virtually no government, no military — all they do is go around killing each other. And then they come into our country and tell us how to run our country. We don’t want them.”

Trump then pivoted to Omar.

“Somalia, where you have a congressman [who] goes around telling everybody about our Constitution, yet she supposedly came into our country by marrying her brother!” Trump said. “Well, if that’s true, she shouldn’t be a congressman, and we should throw her the hell out of the country!”

Trump’s latest comments, shared across social media and several national outlets, echoed what many users on X and other platforms were already saying throughout the weekend.

Following Trump’s remarks, Alpha News reached out to U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen to ask whether his office is reviewing — or has ever reviewed — allegations of immigration fraud related to Omar’s past marriage, and whether denaturalization proceedings could be considered.

As of publication, Rosen has not responded.

Omar has repeatedly denied the claim that she married her brother, calling it a racist smear.

The controversy Trump referenced is not new. Alpha News investigated the congresswoman’s complex marital history in its 2019 three-part series, “The Secrets of Ilhan Omar.”
