A woman was shot early Friday morning, March 18, outside a residence on the 1900 block of Colfax Avenue South in Minneapolis.
Police responded to the area at about 7:40 a.m. but learned a vehicle had left the scene with the female inside. She was dropped off at the hospital a short time later, according to dispatch audio. Her injuries proved to be fatal.
The medical examiner has since identified her as Ta-Nasha Brittanya Shurnene Austin, 30, of St. Cloud, Minnesota. Her cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound to the chest. A description of the suspect vehicle was released later in the day and was described as a 2011 white Dodge Journey. There has been no word at this time on whether a suspect has been apprehended. Police said they were investigating the death as the 13th homicide for Minneapolis this year.
Two people were shot in an exchange of gunfire just before 9 p.m. on Saturday evening, March 19, that reportedly occurred at or near the abandoned gas station on the corner of 38th and Chicago Avenue South, the location known as “George Floyd Square.”
One victim who was reported to be a 20-year-old male was transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds to the chest and leg, according to dispatch audio. Another man showed up at an area hospital with gunshot wounds that are believed to have occurred in the incident. Police later stated that one of the victims had “potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds.” Gunshot audio reported to be from the incident was later posted online.

Just after 1 a.m. Sunday morning, March 20, gunshots were reported inside the Muse Event Center in the North Loop by an off-duty officer. There was reported to be a large number of people on site. Witnesses reported seeing a man with an AR-style rifle who had fired the shots. Once police made their way inside the building, they recovered shell casings on an upper level.
One man showed up at the hospital a short time later. He had reportedly been shot in the leg and it was possibly related to the incident, according to dispatch audio at the time. Police later stated that no arrests had been made. A post on Eventbrite appeared to indicate that the event was a birthday celebration featuring an appearance by rapper “EST Gee.” A video clip was posted on Snapchat of the crowd inside the venue prior to the shots-fired incident.
In another incident early Sunday morning, March 20, just after 4 a.m., Minneapolis police had been in the area of East 25th Street and 24th Avenue South monitoring a large gathering of people and vehicles when a barrage of gunfire broke out and lasted several minutes, according to police dispatch audio at the time. Police later stated that over 150 rounds had been fired over ten minutes in a two-block radius at the “massive gathering.” There were no reported injuries at the time, police said.
Across the river in St. Paul, police reported that a man in his 20s was shot around 2:40 a.m. Sunday, March 20, while confronting catalytic converter thieves on the 1100 block of Marion Street. The man was privately transported to the hospital and is expected to survive. There are no reports of arrests being made in connection to the incident.
