Two people murdered in downtown St. Paul Monday night 

Two individuals were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds and pronounced dead.

Two people were killed in a double homicide Monday night in downtown St. Paul, according to police.

Metro Transit and St. Paul police officers responded to reports of shots fired inside a building on the corner of 5th Street East and Cedar Street around 8:30 p.m.

Metro Transit said the building includes a stairway and elevator connecting the street level to a skyway near the Green Line’s Central Station. Metro Transit owns and maintains the building and skyway.

Two individuals were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds and pronounced dead.

The victims have been identified by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office as David Burton Johnson, 18, of St. Paul, and Ellijah Marquise Payne, 21, of St. Paul.

The Metro Transit Police Department is investigating the incident. No arrests have been made.

According to Crime Watch Minneapolis, two suspects were seen running southbound on Cedar Street and getting into a dark blue or black Ford Explorer.

The two deaths bring the total number of homicides on the year in St. Paul to 37.
