A Twin Cities veteran has been identified two months after passing away following a violent assault in downtown Minneapolis.

James Patrick Quigley, 53, of Spring Park was identified by the medical examiner this week, and his manner of death was determined to be homicide due to blunt force head trauma.

Quigley died on May 14, 10 days after being assaulted in the early morning hours of May 4 on 9th and Nicollet Mall.

Crime Watch was contacted in May following Quigley’s death by friends looking for answers. Limited information went out over the police scanner at the time, but suspects were described at the time as possibly a male and female on bicycles. The Minneapolis Police Department has not released a statement to the public on Quigley’s death.

Quigley’s family told media this week that Quigley had gone with friends to First Avenue for a concert, and they believe he was attacked when he went to catch an Uber on Nicollet Mall.

Quigley was a Gulf War veteran and was buried in late June at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
