Some scenes of celebration that were captured after protesters and a group of American Indians were allowed to topple the Christopher Columbus statue at the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul.

Governor Tim Walz and those in his inner circle knew about the plan by the group to destroy the statue of Columbus.

The primary organizer was the American Indian Movement (AIM). The vandalism was perpetrated Wednesday afternoon by AIM members accompanied by other protesters.

Governor Tim Walz acknowledged AIM’s intent to destroy the monument hours before the statue was felled during a press conference.
