Watchdog group calls for removal of St. Paul school board member charged with storming church

"We believe Ms. Allen's recent behavior at the Cities Church in St. Paul for which she was arrested and charged makes her unsuitable for the position she currently holds," Democracy Restored wrote.

An organization called Democracy Restored has asked the St. Paul Board of Education to remove Chauntyll Allen from her post as a school board member. The request comes as authorities investigate the mob that stormed Cities Church in St. Paul last month.

According to its website, Democracy Restored works to “expose the actions of people, including unelected bureaucrats in our government, that may be influencing policy against the wishes the American people have expressed through their elected representatives.”

Allen, meanwhile, is an elected member of the St. Paul Board of Education and also serves as the clerk of that board. Democracy Restored called for Allen’s removal from her post because of her connection to the anti-ICE mob that stormed Cities Church in St. Paul.

On Jan. 18, an anti-ICE mob stormed into Cities Church during its Sunday service. The mob screamed at women and children, harassed churchgoers, shouted anti-ICE chants, and created such turmoil in the sanctuary that the worship service had to be abandoned.

Court documents also accuse the mob of blocking the stairway to the church’s childcare area. The anti-ICE agitators allegedly stormed the church because they believed one of the pastors is a federal government official who works for ICE.

Since then, the U.S. Justice Department has arrested several people in connection to that invasion. Former CNN journalist Don Lemon, Minneapolis activist Nekima Levy Armstrong, and Allen are among those who have been arrested and charged.

Now, Democracy Restored has asked the St. Paul Board of Education to remove Allen from her role as a school board member. Under state law, school board members can be removed from their post by a vote of that school board’s other members.

“We believe Ms. Allen’s recent behavior at the Cities Church in St. Paul for which she was arrested and charged makes her unsuitable for the position she currently holds and that an investigation should take place immediately to determine her fitness for office,” wrote the group.

In a letter to the board, Democracy Restored recounted the charges against Allen and said she “organized and participated in an allegedly felonious disruption” of Cities Church.

Allen, who was among the anti-ICE agitators who disrupted the Jan. 18 church service, has defended the church invasion, saying, “I believe that’s what needed to be done to get the message across.”

Democracy Restored noted that one of the charges Allen faces is a felony which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines.

In turn, Democracy Restored said Allen “should be removed from her position as Clerk of the Board and her position as a member of the board,” and the board should “at the very least” conduct an investigation into the facts surrounding Allen’s criminal charges.

Alpha News contacted Allen for this story but did not hear back prior to publication.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the school district told Alpha News that “the district has been made aware of this situation and is following all applicable policies and procedures. Saint Paul Public Schools does not comment on pending legal matters.”
