A Minneapolis man who allegedly attempted to rape a woman in a downtown bathroom was bailed out by the Minnesota Freedom Fund and arrested three days later when he was caught masturbating in front of children.
According to Crime Watch Minneapolis, Gregory Jones, 28, was arrested on Christmas after being charged in a Nov. 8 attack on a woman at O’Donovan’s Irish Pub. Jones allegedly snuck up on a woman in the bathroom, put his hand over her mouth, grabbed her around the waist and dragged her backwards.

Oh, @MNFreedomFund bailed out another dangerous pervert, now he's charged in a new crime.
Gregory Jones, 10/20/1993, had been in custody since Christmas after being charged with attacking a woman in a #DTMpls pub bathroom. He was released on Feb 8 after MFF put up $20g bail. pic.twitter.com/lSw03gvYw9— CrimeWatchMpls (@CrimeWatchMpls) February 15, 2022
The victim yelled out for help as Jones attempted to force her into a bathroom stall, a criminal complaint says. Jones ran from the bathroom when a server at the bar walked in.
Jones then struck a bartender with a chair when he tried to stop Jones from leaving. Police located Jones a few blocks away from the bar. He fought with the responding officers and attempted to “run away repeatedly.”
The victim told police that she was “extremely scared” and thought Jones “was trying to rape her.” The criminal complaint describes Jones as “a danger to public safety” who was “under investigation for several other incidents of indecent exposure.”
Jones was in jail until Feb. 8, when the Minnesota Freedom Fund decided to bail him out for $40,000, Crime Watch Minneapolis reports.
Three days after his release, he was arrested for masturbating in front of children at the FAIR School for Arts in downtown Minneapolis. He allegedly said things like, “Oh yeah, baby” and, “Good morning, beautiful” to teenage girls while he “masturbated himself” as they entered school.
Police spoke with three staff members who said Jones was “masturbating outside the school in plain view of many students and staff.”
“School security indicated this was not the first time defendant had done this. Defendant was previously trespassed from the school for the same behavior,” a criminal complaint says.
He was arrested with a broken pipe in his pocket used for smoking controlled substances. Jones is now back in custody at the Hennepin County Jail and has other open cases involving robbery and theft, according to Crime Watch.
The Minnesota Freedom Fund is a nonprofit that has bailed out countless violent criminals, including a twice-convicted rapist, a man accused of sexually penetrating a young child, a man who curb stomped a person, and several serial domestic abusers.
The group seeks to “abolish cash bail in Minnesota” and believes the criminal justice system “was designed to maintain and uphold white supremacy.”
