America’s most expensive House race ended with Democratic incumbent Rick Nolan retaining his House seat in Minnesota CD-8.
2,025 votes made the difference between Rick Nolan (DFL) and Stewart Mills (R) in the hotly contested Minnesota Congressional District 8. Each candidate received 50% of the vote, with Nolan receiving 179,108 votes to Mills’ 177,083 votes.
Both Republicans and Democrats poured money into the race. The Star Tribune reported more than $17 million dollars was spent mainly on TV and radio advertising in an attempt to swing the 650,000 voters living in the northeastern Minnesota district.
It was the second time Nolan and Mills have faced-off: in 2014 Mills lost to Nolan by less than 4,000 votes.
