The event, called Speaking Proudly, is sponsored by the Metro Republican Women and challenges high school girls to create an oratory speech centered around rising to the challenge of the quote by Ben Franklin calling America “A Republic, if you can keep it.”
Applicants are to write about something they see as a challenge or threat to our republic, whether that threat is of the past, present or future. Once they identify the threat or challenge, they are to explain how it can be overcome by a group or individual while also incorporating a “call to action” from the audience by incorporating persuasive techniques into the speech.
There are also prizes for the first, second and third place winners of $1,000, $500, and $250 respectively. The competition is also limited to 50 students and is expected to be highly competitive.
Applications opened on Apr. 1 for prospective participants and will stay open through Aug. 1. If you are a high school female who is proud to be an American, loves a challenge, and has something to say about our country, apply here!
