At least two Minneapolis police officers were injured along with several others during an active shooter incident in downtown Minneapolis Wednesday afternoon.
The city later confirmed in a statement that three people, including the shooter, had died and that three officers were injured, including two by gunfire. Three other civilians were shot and are being treated at Hennepin County Medical Center. It is unknown at this time how the shooter died.
Hennepin Healthcare released a statement saying it received seven patients “from this afternoon’s mass casualty incident in Minneapolis.”
Sources told Alpha News and Crime Watch that one officer’s injuries were potentially not life-threatening, and the other officer was taken into surgery, potentially shot in the abdomen. Interim Police Chief Bill Peterson said during a Wednesday night press conference that “from what I’ve been told, they will make a full recovery.”
The incident developed at the Loring Towers apartment building at 15 East Grant Street just after 4:30 p.m., according to available first responder dispatch audio. A massive number of squads responded from around the city and other agencies, and multiple ambulances could be seen lined up in the area in images posted online.
At least one severely damaged squad was observed outside the location. A source said the squad was hit responding to the scene.

Police began arriving at the scene at approximately 4:39 p.m. and entered the high-rise apartment building, the city said in a statement.
Inside, officers found victims and heard additional gunfire. Officers followed the sound of the gunfire to an upper floor of the building where they encountered a haze that significantly limited their visibility, the statement said.
At approximately 4:36 p.m. today, MPD officers were dispatched to a shooting at 15 E Grant St. Initial information indicated that one person had been shot. Additional 911 callers then reported hearing further gunfire.

Three officers were injured, including two by gunfire. “The three officers were taken to Hennepin Healthcare. One officer sustained an apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg. One officer is currently undergoing surgery. The third officer is being evaluated for an apparent non-life-threatening injury,” the statement explained.
“The suspected shooter is deceased. Seven people were transported to Hennepin Healthcare. One of those individuals died at the hospital. There was one individual who died at the scene,” it added.
Multiple sources confirmed to Crime Watch that the suspect was Carlton Johnson II, age 35.

“I’m truly sickened by this level of violence,” Interim Chief Peterson said during Wednesday’s press conference. “That feeling is tempered only by the courageous actions of the Minneapolis police officers who responded without hesitation, confronted an extraordinarily dangerous situation, and worked to end the violence and restore safety.”
