A man who was found trespassing at the state Capitol three times over the weekend has several active Minnesota criminal cases and is wanted on an extradition warrant from Wisconsin.
Dominic Terrell Peace, 36, was first “found disrobed” in the Minnesota Senate chamber late Friday night. Peace also made statements to authorities at the time “indicating a belief that he was the governor.” Peace was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul for evaluation. However, Peace was “deemed non-threatening to himself or others” and was released.
Peace was found at the Capitol again early Saturday morning and was removed and transferred to Regions Hospital, where he was again released, according to an earlier statement from Minnesota State Patrol Col. Christina Bogojevic to Alpha News. After he showed up a third time, he was taken into custody by law enforcement and is being held in Ramsey County Jail on an extradition warrant out of Wisconsin related to a prior conviction on three counts of fraud against a financial institution. Court documents state that Peace is wanted in St. Croix County for violating the terms of his sentence for failure to comply with making restitution payments ordered by the court.
Peace also has at least five active Minnesota cases in Ramsey County on charges including felony auto theft, fourth degree burglary, theft, false information to police, obstructing the legal process, and trespassing. Court records do not indicate Peace was wanted on warrants in any of the active cases, and he had recently made court appearances in some of the cases.
A mental health competency evaluation was ordered for Peace in the felony auto theft case, yet he was released from custody on his own recognizance in June by Ramsey County Judge Timothy Carey.
A statement from State Patrol, who is in charge of Capitol security, explained that they continue to investigate how Peace came to be in the Capitol after public hours Friday evening. They said the State Patrol will be conducting a comprehensive review to determine how this happened and make any necessary updates to Capitol security protocols.
Concerns about Capitol and lawmaker security are heightened in light of the murders and shootings of Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses by alleged suspect Vance Boelter last month.
