Longtime Minnesota Democrat Congressman Collin Peterson lost the influential endorsement from National Right to Life.
National Right to Life criticized Peterson for breaking his promise to vote pro-life and specifically criticizing Peterson’s vote against President Trump policy of protecting taxpayer dollars from being used to fund abortions.
“Unfortunately, Rep. Collin Peterson (D) does not have a 100% pro-life voting record. He even voted to overturn President Trump’s pro-life policy of not allowing U.S. taxpayer dollars to be used to fund overseas organizations that perform or promote abortion.” wrote National Right to Life in a press release.
Instead, National Right to Life has chosen to endorse Republican challenger Michelle Fischbach.
“Michelle Fischbach is a stalwart pro-lifer who will vote 100% pro-life and oppose taxpayer funding of abortion and abortion-providers,” stated Karen Cross, political director for National Right to Life. “She will also vote to restore pro-life leadership to the U.S. House.”
Fischbach faces a competitive race for the GOP endorsement from several challengers, including 2018 Congressional Candidate Dave Hughes. Hughes has also pledged to vote 100% pro-life if he gets elected.
RNC spokesperson Preya Samsundar believes this new development is a predictor that Peterson will not be reelected by the voters of the Minnesotas 7th Congressional District in 2020.
“If the writing on the wall was fuzzy before, then it should be crystal clear for Collin Peterson now. After years of pandering to his constituents, the layers of his façade are quickly being pulled away to reveal another Democrat in Nancy Pelosi’s pocket. Minnesotans will ensure that THIS is Peterson’s last year in office.”
