DSA-backed state lawmaker hosting Minneapolis event with far-left streamer Hasan Piker, Ilhan Omar

Minnesota GOP Chairman Alex Plechash called on Sen. Amy Klobuchar to rescind her endorsement of Rep. Ilhan Omar after the event with Hasan Piker was announced.

DFL state Sen. Omar Fateh announced Thursday that far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker and DFL Congresswoman Ilhan Omar will be guests on his newly-announced “conversation series” called “I’m The Host Now.”

“The rumors are true! My sis Representative [Ilhan Omar] and my brother [Hasan Piker] will be joining me for the inaugural event of ‘I’m The Host Now!'” Fateh wrote in a social media post Thursday afternoon.

“I am honored to be able to share space alongside two fearless champions for our people who fight for us and the future that we want to build. I’m excited for you all to join us for this Election Edition discussion,” Fateh added.

While few details are available about “I’m The Host Now,” the event appears to be a live forum where Fateh, Piker, and Omar will “discuss Minneapolis, Politics and our community.” A location for the event has not been released, but the forum will take place on Oct. 26 in Minneapolis.

The name of Fateh’s new conversation series appears to be a play on a meme from the 2013 film Captain Phillips. In that film, a group of Somali pirates take over a vessel hauling shipping containers and one of the pirates famously says, “I’m the captain now.”

Both Piker and Omar are two of the most recognizable far-left figures in the country.

Omar, a member of the far-left “Squad” in Congress, has been embroiled in controversy since she was elected to Congress in 2018. Perhaps the most notable of those controversies is the allegation that she married her brother for immigration purposes.

Earlier this week, Omar’s home was raided by federal authorities as part of an investigation into whether Omar committed immigration fraud. According to a Wall Street Journal report, the federal government is reportedly building a case to strip Omar of her citizenship.

Meanwhile, Piker has become a household name in recent months after being embraced by Democratic Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed. After campaigning with El-Sayed earlier this year, Piker’s past comments quickly became national news.

Piker, a self-described socialist, has expressed admiration for Chinese dictator Mao Zedong and is most well-known for saying “America deserved 9/11” on one of his hours-long Twitch streams. Piker has since walked back his remarks about 9/11, saying he did not mean it.

“I was simply referencing the fact that all of the foreign policy decisions, and our arming of insurgent groups in the region, and our efforts in destabilizing the Middle East have a direct consequence, a boomerang effect, rather, if you will, causing 9/11,” he explained in 2019.

Additionally, Piker previously called for property owners who do not rent out their homes to be killed, saying, “Kill them! Kill those motherfuckers and murder those motherfuckers in the streets. Let the streets soak in their fucking red capitalist blood, dude.”

Piker later said his comment was “hyperbolic” and “not meant to be sincere” and “not a real policy that I would ever advocate for.”

Meanwhile, Fateh is one of the most far-left members of the Minnesota Senate and a 2025 candidate for mayor of Minneapolis. In his campaigns for office, Fateh has been endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) Twin Cities.

After Fateh announced that Piker would be joining his “I’m The Host Now” event, Minnesota Republican Party Chairman Alex Plechash called on DFL Sen. Amy Klobuchar to rescind her endorsement of Omar, who is seeking reelection this year.

“Nearly 3,000 Americans were murdered on September 11th. Their families still visit the graves, and Minnesota’s first responders still carry the memory,” Plechash said in a press statement. “Hasan Piker said America deserved it. Ilhan Omar is going to share a stage with him eight days before the election. And Amy Klobuchar’s endorsement is still featured on Ilhan Omar’s campaign website today.”

Klobuchar is the DFL nominee for governor of Minnesota. She faces Republican Lisa Demuth, the speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives, in the general election.

“Amy Klobuchar wants Minnesotans to believe she’s a moderate,” Plechash added. “A moderate would not need to be asked twice to disavow someone who said America deserved the slaughter of its own people. Senator, you have eleven days. Rescind the endorsement. The families of 9/11 deserve better.”

Alpha News contacted Klobuchar for this story but did not immediately hear back.
