The nephew of former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is working on Amy Klobuchar’s campaign for Minnesota governor.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Zach Rodham is the war room digital director at Minnesotans for Klobuchar, Klobuchar’s campaign committee. Additionally, campaign finance records show that Rodham is in the employ of Klobuchar’s campaign.
Rodham is the son of Tony Rodham, one of Clinton’s two younger brothers. In addition to being Clinton’s nephew, Rodham is also the grandson of Barbara Boxer, a Democratic U.S. senator from California who served from 1993 to 2017.
According to campaign finance reports, Klobuchar’s campaign has paid Rodham $8,380.53 in total as of Sept. 15. The subject line for those payments is “salary.” Despite working for a Minnesota-based campaign, Rodham’s LinkedIn profile lists his location as Washington, D.C.
Prior to his work with Klobuchar, Rodham was a content specialist with the Democratic National Committee. He has served as the “online voice of two DNC Chairs,” one of whom is Ken Martin, the current chair of the DNC and a former chair of the Minnesota DFL.
Rodham worked for ATTN, a Los Angeles-based media company, and was a production assistant at Universal Pictures prior to his work for the Democratic Party.
Clinton and Klobuchar are former colleagues who served together in the U.S. Senate from 2007 until Clinton’s ascension to U.S. secretary of state in 2009.
In the 2008 Democratic presidential primaries, Klobuchar endorsed then-U.S. Sen. Barack Obama instead of Clinton. Klobuchar’s endorsement of Obama came weeks after Obama won Minnesota’s Democratic precinct caucuses by more than 30 points.
However, Klobuchar endorsed Clinton’s presidential run in 2016 when she faced progressive U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary. Further, Klobuchar campaigned in New Hampshire with Clinton in the days leading up to the New Hampshire Democratic primary.
Clinton went on to win the 2016 Democratic nomination but lost Minnesota’s Democratic presidential precinct caucuses to Sanders by more than 20 points in the process.
