The Omnibus Public Safety Budget Bill, HF 2792, is a massive budget bill that incorporates many subjects including gun control and the restoration of the right to vote for convicted felons.
Speaker of the House, Representative Melissa Hortman (DFL- Brooklyn Park), tweeted that the gun control bills are “common sense measures” that have broad support by Minnesotans. “If this were true, Speaker Hortman and Majority Leader Winkler should bring these bills forward to the House floor as standalone bills rather than burying them inside a budget bill” responded Bryan Strawser, Chair of the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus.

The New House Republican Caucus has worked hard this session to expose the dangers of omnibus bills and the lack of transparency they offer for Minnesotans. On Apr 5, The Health and Human Services Finance Omnibus Bill came out as the “largest and most expensive single bill in Minnesota State History” totalling 998 pages, as Representative Jeremy Munson (R- Lake Crystal) said.
