Ilhan Omar’s activist daughter adds hammer and sickle to Twitter bio

According to some estimates, communist regimes like the USSR, which flew the hammer and sickle flag, are responsible for over 100 million deaths.

Rep. Ilhan Omar’s daughter, Isra Hirsi, is apparently a communist.

Hirsi recently added the hammer and sickle to her bio on Twitter where she’s been posting pro-communist content and calling for a revolution for over a year. Last December, for example, she wrote about how she seeks to “radicalize” her friends and family against capitalism, earning an approving public reply from her congresswoman mother.

Hirsi is also responsible for a portion of the content posted by Omar’s account, reports Fox News.

According to some estimates, communist regimes like the USSR, which flew the hammer and sickle flag, are responsible for over 100 million deaths — many times more than the number of people killed under Nazism. For this reason, Hirsi’s support of such a radical symbol has drawn broad criticism online.

However, it seems that Hirsi and her message receive a mostly positive response from powerful institutions.

She’s been named in Fortune’s “40 Under 40” list of political influencers and has been lauded by media outlets like New York Magazine and Vice News.

She’s also been invited to speak at several colleges and universities, including the University of Washington where she spoke last month, Columbia University where she was recently accepted, and Wake Forest University where she gave a TED Talk called “An Angry Black Girl.”

Hirsi also co-founded the Youth Climate March where she actively seeks attention and publicity.

Despite this, Omar spokesman Jeremy Slevin thinks Hirsi should be immune to criticism. After Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene made a quip about Hirsi’s communist signaling, Slevin declared it “open online harassment of a teenager.”

He also addressed critics of Hirsi broadly, saying: “Have you no shame? Rep. Omar is an elected official, her child is not. Also, given the fact that Rep. Omar and her kids receive a significant amount of death threats, this is highly irresponsible and dangerous.”

As Omar’s team is rushing to scorn Hirsi’s detractors, the young activist herself is reveling in the attention with several Twitter posts mocking the controversy she’s stirred by coming out as a communist.
