LAKE CRYSTAL, Minn. – Republican Jeremy Munson, a candidate in the Minnesota House District 23B special election, received the support of three leading GOP gubernatorial candidates.
Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson, State Rep. Matt Dean, and former State Party Chairman Keith Downey, all candidates running for governor, endorsed Munson in the race to fill the seat vacated by Rep. Tony Cornish. Cornish resigned last year following allegations of sexual harassment.
“I’m extremely happy to support Jeremy Munson in his special election for House District 23B. Jeremy will make an awesome representative in St. Paul,” Johnson wrote in a Facebook post. “Jeremy has been on the front lines fighting for conservative principles for a long time and it will be a great day when he can cast votes in St. Paul to put these principles into law!”
Dean joined Munson on the campaign trail, helping the candidate knock on doors in Vernon Center and Good Thunder on Sunday. Speaking with voters, Dean praised Munson, saying he is a “good man” that will “work very hard” as a representative.
“He is not afraid to fight government-run healthcare which has killed access to affordable care for rural Minnesota,” Dean said, according to the Mankato Times.
On Thursday, Downey joined Munson in Lake Crystal, touring a local manufacturing plant together. Downey has offered ringing praise of Munson, saying the state needs “strong conservative leaders.”
“Minnesota needs strong conservative leaders to reign in state government. That is why I support Jeremy Munson,” Downey said, according to the Mankato Times. “As a candidate, Jeremy is running on issues that will put the power back in your hands.”
Munson, who has already been endorsed by the Republican Party, will go up against Republican Scott Sanders in the January 29 primary. Whoever wins the primary will face Democrat Melissa Wagner in the special election on February 12.
