Republican Senate candidate Jason Lewis said “crazy” urban liberals are “driving folks away from the Democratic Party in droves.”
“It’s sort of a microcosm of the entire country. As the urban liberals become a little bit more crazy, it drives everybody else into Trump country and red country. Donald Trump has done the most important thing he could for the GOP and he’s brought the working man and woman back to the party. That really plays well on the Iron Range, out in farm country in Greater Minnesota,” Lewis said during a Saturday “Fox & Friends” interview.
“When you’re driving people away from the city because they don’t have public order – I want you to think about this whether it’s Portland or Minneapolis – those are predominantly liberal urban elites, in many cases, and they’re leaving. It means that public order is issue number one,” he added. “I think we’re going to win and I think the president’s going to win.”
An August Emerson College poll had Lewis statistically tied with his opponent, Democratic Sen. Tina Smith. An internal poll released last week by the Lewis campaign yielded similar results. As such, Real Clear Politics has labeled the race between Smith and Lewis a “toss up.”
“A revolution is in the works here in Minnesota — the state’s decades-long blue streak will come to an end this November. We are going to win, and the president is going to win,” Lewis said in a statement.
