ST. PAUL, Minn. – Three major pro-life groups recently endorsed Karin Housley for U.S. Senate.
In a press conference last week, the Susan B. Anthony List, Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL), and National Right to Life Committee announced their support for Housley, praising the candidate’s pro-life voting record in the Minnesota Senate.
Housley was first elected to the Minnesota Senate in 2012 and is now running against Democratic Sen. Tina Smith to fill the seat vacated by Al Franken last year. Smith, Gov. Mark Dayton’s temporary replacement for Franken, has a long pro-abortion record and was formerly the vice president for the Minnesota Planned Parenthood affiliate.
Sue Swayze Liebel, SBA List’s National Pro-life Women’s Caucus Coordinator, urged voters to support a “principled pro-life leader.”
“We are pleased to endorse a principled pro-life leader like Karin Housley,” Swayze Liebel said in a press release. “Karin has a 100 percent pro-life voting record in the Minnesota Senate. She is running against an abortion industry lobbyist who has worked to block even the most modest pro-life initiatives, including a popular policy to stop taxpayer funding of abortion. For too long, this seat has been held by abortion extremists who are out of step with most Minnesotans. Karin will work for the people, not the abortion lobby. Her voice is greatly needed in the U.S. Senate and we urge voters to support her.”
Accepting the endorsement, Housley said she was proud of her “record of protecting the most vulnerable.”
“I am very grateful for Susan B. Anthony List’s endorsement,” Housley said in a press release. I am proud of my record of protecting the most vulnerable as well as standing up for Minnesota values, and I look forward to bringing a fresh voice to Washington.” Housley said.
During the press conference, Carol Tobias, President of the National Right to Life Committee, was quick to highlight the stark difference between Housley and Smith.
“There is a stark contrast between Karin Housley and Tina Smith, appointed by Governor Mark Dayton to fill an open seat,” Tobias wrote. “Karin Housley supports legal protection for unborn children while Tina Smith supports abortion for any reason until birth.”
Andrea Rau, a spokeswoman for MCCL Federal PAC, noted how Housley’s voting record reflects the Majority of Minnesotans.
“Karin Housley’s pro-life voting record perfectly reflects the convictions of the great majority of Minnesotans, unlike that of pro-abortion Tina Smith,” said MCCL Federal PAC’s Andrea Rau. “Sen. Housley’s record of always voting for the protection of innocent human life will be well received by the people of Minnesota.”
Today MCCL held a joint press conference with two other pro-life organizations and pro-life U.S. Senate candidate Karin Housley at the state Capitol. Housley is running against Tina Smith, a former Planned Parenthood executive.
