A southern Minnesota woman is acting as a one-woman cheerleading squad to promote local food businesses in her area to help keep them afloat during the COVID-19 shutdown.
Kristy Paulson of New Ulm, MN is using her personal Facebook page to encourage community members to join her in supporting local businesses during the pandemic and opt for take-out, delivery and curbside service from area restaurants.
Paulson’s Facebook page is filled with pictures from local businesses that she’s visited showcasing food, menus and contact info, and she includes tidbits about specials and business hours.
In a local KEYC report on Paulson’s efforts, she said, “Obviously, everybody is going through trying times right now.” She said that New Ulm and the surrounding community have always been good about supporting local restaurants and that even though people have their favorites, this is “kind of a reminder not to forget ‘all’ of the businesses in the area,” she said.
The statewide closure of bars and sit-down restaurants has been extended until at least June 1, which means restrictions are still in place limiting service to take-out and delivery. In response, Paulson has now branched out her cheerleading efforts to the Mankato and St. Peter areas.
Paulson’s Facebook posts seem to get people talking about the businesses she’s mentioned commenting about their own favorites and thanking her for the effort she’s putting out to make people aware of what the restaurants have to offer even during the shutdown.
