The suspect and an officer were both shot. The suspect died at the scene; the officer was transported to a local hospital for a gunshot wound to the hand.
The incident area has been blocked off for evidence processing. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is leading the investigation of this incident.
There is no additional information currently available.”
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said in a statement that it is investigating the use-of-force incident and will release more information after the preliminary investigation is complete.
The Richfield Police Department is among the numerous Minnesota police agencies that have switched to encrypted dispatches, which conceals real-time law enforcement information from the public, so an accessible and transparent record of events is not immediately available.
Alpha News will continue to follow developments in the incident.
