An Eagan, Minn., man will spend less than six months in jail in connection to the March hit-and-run crash that killed 40-year-old Leslie Anne Youngberg as she and a companion walked from a venue near Nicols Road and Cliff Road.
Rolando Miranda Martinez, 59, pled guilty in April to one felony count of leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in death and was sentenced last Thursday in Dakota County District Court.
Miranda Martinez received a stayed 12-month prison sentence and was instead ordered to serve 180 days in local jail by Judge Luis Morales. Under Minnesota’s two-thirds rule, Miranda Martinez would only be required to serve 120 days or less incarcerated and will receive credit for 97 days already spent in jail.
Miranda Martinez was also placed on probation for a term of three years.
Miranda Martinez was still on probation from his most recent and third DWI conviction in May 2023 at the time of the March hit-and-run. In the 2023 case, the Minnesota State Patrol arrived to a crash in Richfield to find Miranda Martinez’s vehicle rolled over on its roof. Miranda Martinez subsequently tested at .128 BAC.
In the fatal Eagan crash, Miranda Martinez later admitted leaving the scene of the crash and told police he’d been on his way home from a bar in Minneapolis but denied drinking.
