POLL: Minnesotans don’t like Tim Walz or the new state flag

A plurality of voters said they trust Republicans more than Democrats to reduce fraud.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is more unpopular than he has ever been, but still not as unpopular as the new state flag, according to a poll released this week.

A new KARE 11/Star Tribune/U of M poll found that just 39% of Minnesotans approve of Gov. Walz’s performance while 53% disapprove and 8% are undecided. The figure reportedly represents Walz’s lowest approval rating since being elected governor.

But Minnesota’s new state flag fares even worse. The poll shows that just 30% of Minnesotans approve of the redesigned flag, compared to 50% who disapprove and 20% who are undecided.

The poll also found that most Minnesotans disapprove of President Donald Trump. A total of 41% of respondents said they approve of his performance, whereas 56% disapprove and 3% are undecided.

Meanwhile, U.S. Sen Amy Klobuchar leads all three of her potential Republican opponents in the race to replace Walz: 48%-40% against Lisa Demuth; 48%-37% against Kendall Qualls; and 53%-36% against Mike Lindell.

However, the poll reveals that 81% of Minnesotans are either very or somewhat concerned about fraud, and a plurality (45%) of voters trust Republicans over Democrats (38%) to reduce fraud.

Minnesota GOP Chair Alex Plechash said the poll confirms that the “DFL brand is collapsing.”

“This year’s DFL ticket is Walz-Flanagan 2.0 — the same failed politicians, the same broken priorities, the same excuses, and the same disastrous results,” he said. “[Klobuchar] stood with the same political machine that spent an $18 billion surplus, raised taxes by billions, and looked the other way while fraud exploded.”
