Rep. Hagedorn was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer in 2019, but recently reported: “I’m feeling great and working hard.”

Representing the 1st district of Minnesota, Hagedorn has not issued a single meeting in Washington due to his illness and has held 26 Town Hall meetings. He is receiving regular medical treatment at Mayo Clinic in Rochester and reports that the treatment is working.

“I’m feeling great and working hard. Rest assured, I will keep fighting cancer and fighting for America and the people of southern Minnesota,” said Hagedorn.

Hagedorn has warned that many may face what happened to him, or worse, because of not getting diagnosed during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It is not like these malignancies are suddenly taking a hiatus because of the coronavirus pandemic. In reality, those patients are simply not being diagnosed or treated. It is absolutely vital that as we concentrate all our energies on combating this new foe, we do not neglect the long-fought battle against other lethal diseases,” states an op-ed Hagedorn wrote with North Carolina Rep. Greg Murphy.

Hagedorn has used his case as an example of why getting a diagnosis is so important, saying that if his treatment had been delayed even a couple of months he likely would be dead.
