DULUTH, Minn. – Former U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann was honored at sold-out Minnesota Federation of Republican Women (MNFRW) tribute breakfast.

Early Saturday morning before the GOP convention the MNFRW gathered to award Bachmann with their President’s Distinguished Service Award for her service and dedication to Minnesota and the nation.

Established in 1938, the MNFRW is an organization of strong female leaders who encourage, educate, and support Republican women across Minnesota to participate in the political process at the grassroots level. There are currently nine clubs across the state.

“[Bachmann has] our respect and admiration,” said the MNFRW President, Pam Myhra, before presenting the award.

Bachmann spoke to the packed audience about how and why she became involved with politics. She recounted other MNFRW events that inspired her and added that her motivation is “sitting right here in this room.”

Bachmann emphasized the need for conservative leaders to continue to rise up, saying there is a lot “at stake.”

“Minnesota needs to get back on track,” Bachmann said.

After moving to Stillwater, Bachmann, a deeply devout Christian, felt that God called her to fight for conservative values in our country. She told the audience the story of the moment that compelled her to take action.

Bachmann said that the question “Would you be a fool for me?” rang in her head. Her answer was undoubtedly “yes.”

Bachmann said she never expected to win her first endorsement in 2000. Fifteen years later when her time in public office came to an end, Bachmann said she felt a wave of peace wash over her and left with a sense that she had fulfilled her God-given duties.

Bachmann served in Congress for 8 years and ran for President in 2012. Currently, she is the Executive Director of Skyline Church’s Hammarskjold Society and Wallenberg Fellowship in New York.
