The Minnesota State Fair managed to open its gates at 9 a.m. Tuesday despite significant challenges caused by severe storms that swept through the Twin Cities.
The storms, which began Monday night, left a path of destruction, knocking out power to tens of thousands of households across the region. Tuesday morning brought another round of storms, toppling Porta Potties and leaving dozens of booths and stands in disarray at the State Fair.
The Mighty Midway, Kidway, and Adventure Park were among the most affected, with a 3.5-hour delay in their opening. Fair officials have since announced that all attractions are now open.
One man, who has worked at the State Fair for the past thirty years, described the aftermath as “the worst I’ve ever seen.” Another employee echoed the sentiment, saying, “It looked like a war zone.”
The Minnesota State Fair continues to post updates on their website as the situation develops. Fairgoers are encouraged to check online for the latest information before heading out.
