The Republican National Committee (RNC) recently announced that in lieu of deciding on an official platform, it will support President Donald Trump’s “America-first agenda.”
In the announcement, the RNC said it unanimously voted to forego holding a meeting of its platform committee because it did not want a “small contingent of delegates” formulating the 2020 platform. Instead, the RNC agreed to follow President Trump’s lead, saying the foregone committee “would have undoubtedly unanimously agreed to reassert the Party’s strong support for President Donald Trump and his Administration.”
“The RNC enthusiastically supports President Trump and continues to reject the policy positions of the Obama-Biden Administration, as well as those espoused by the Democratic National Committee today; therefore, be it resolved, That the Republican Party has and will continue to enthusiastically support the President’s America-first agenda,” said a resolution from the RNC.
The next day, the RNC officially announced its nomination of Trump and Vice President Mike Pence for reelection.
“This is a historic moment in the life of our nation as we re-nominate Donald Trump and Mike Pence for President and Vice President and set our Party on a path to victory. Today’s unanimous re-nomination is a reflection of the unified support for the Trump-Pence ticket,” said RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.
“Our Party is unified, our supporters are energized, and we go forward confident in our cause of re-electing President Trump and Vice President Pence 70 days from now!” she said in a press release.

The RNC’s announcement caused outrage among many, with comments that the decision is “North Korean” and the Republican Party has become a Trump “personality cult”.
The Republicans, in 2020, for the first time, have no platform. Instead: "RESOLVED, That the Republican Party has and will continue to enthusiastically support the President’s America-first agenda." It's no longer the Republican party. It's a Trump cult.https://t.co/BATeUiXRYu

On the same day the RNC released its platform announcement, President Trump’s campaign issued a reelection agenda. The president’s goals include sending the first manned mission to mars with Space Force, taking on international organizations that hurt Americans, winning the race to 5G, working with other nations to clean up the earth’s oceans, and hiring more police officers while fully funding law enforcement.
“So, I just want to thank everybody for this incredible support,” said President Trump on the opening night of the convention. “Be very, very careful, this is going to be, and I really believe this, this is the most important election in the history of our country. Don’t let them take it away from you.”
