Minnesota’s largest police association announced its endorsement of Republican gubernatorial candidate Dr. Scott Jensen Thursday morning.

The announcement was made in front of the Minneapolis Police Department’s Third Precinct building, which was destroyed in the 2020 George Floyd riots.

“When our cops most needed support, it wasn’t there,” Jensen said, reflecting on the riots.

The MPPOA represents more than 10,000 rank-and-file police officers throughout the state.

“Look where we’re at. Over my shoulder used to be a police department. It’s no longer there,” said Executive Director Brian Peters. “Gov. Walz has been missing in action during his term. We need leadership that is going to support law enforcement and not show up when it’s convenient or it’s an election cycle.”
