
At least one person was killed in one of several Minneapolis shootings over the Memorial Day holiday weekend and several others were injured, while an apparent stabbing left a man dead in St. Paul.
A timeline of known incidents, according to available medical dispatches and MPD 911 dashboard listings, is below. Most details are limited and the timeline may be incomplete due to police radio encryption that conceals information from the public.
Monday incidents:
11 p.m., shooting at 40xx Snelling Avenue, one reportedly shot in the head.
6:20 p.m., stabbing at East Franklin and Chicago Avenue.
8 a.m., shooting report showed up at HCMC.
2:10 a.m., shooting at the Northeast Palace Bar & Grill, one reportedly shot in the leg.
Midnight, fatal shooting at 41xx Columbus Avenue. Police said in a statement that officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired at the location and located a man in the street with life-threatening gunshot wounds; he died at the scene. Evidence of gunfire was located along the 4100 block of Columbus Avenue South, and MPD forensic scientists processed the scene and collected evidence. A resident told Crime Watch Minneapolis that they heard the rapid gunshots and that it sounded like at least two people in a shootout. No arrests were made at the time.
Additionally, on Monday at about 1 a.m., a deceased person was found in the parking lot of a storage facility on the 400 block of East Lake Street; unknown circumstances.
Sunday incidents:
5:15 p.m., double shooting at 7xx Penn Avenue North. Two females sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. An approximately 29-year-old-woman was shot in the foot, and an approximately 39-year-old woman was shot through the forearm and triceps. This shooting took place on the same block where family members of Sen. Bobby Joe Champion own a residence, according to sources and property records. Alpha News reached out to Sen. Champion for comment about the shootings but did not receive a reply prior to publication.
4:20 p.m., stabbing at East Lake Street and Chicago Avenue.
2:20 p.m., stabbing at 26xx 10th Avenue South.
Saturday incidents:
10:05 p.m., at least 16 squads were dispatched to Cedar-Riverside on an assault in progress at 16xx S 4th Street. Details about the large response were not immediately available due to police radio encryption.
7:35 p.m., report of a group of 10 that reportedly assaulted and robbed an individual at East Lake Street and 21st Avenue South. The MPD 911 dashboard listed the incident as a stabbing.
4:20 a.m., armed carjacking and assault near the University of Minnesota at 14th Avenue SE and 7th Street SE. The suspects later fled police in Brooklyn Park and then fled on foot after crashing the vehicle. None of the suspects were located at the time.
The weekend violence in Minneapolis follows the shooting murder of a 16-year-old in north Minneapolis on Thursday. No arrests in that homicide have been announced.
St. Paul police said just after 11 a.m. on Monday, a passerby called 911 after spotting a male laying between the railroad tracks near the 1400 block of Case Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult male who appeared to have suffered injuries caused by an edged weapon; he was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests were made at the time. The St. Paul homicide is the fifth for that city so far this year.
