Woman shot and killed in ICE confrontation in south Minneapolis

"Rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them," said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.

A woman was shot and killed in south Minneapolis during a confrontation with federal immigration agents on Wednesday morning.

The incident unfolded about 9:40 a.m. on the 3300 block of Portland Avenue. Available emergency dispatch audio at the time indicated CPR was in progress as responders tried to move the injured party a block away.

Information quickly spread that federal agents were on the ground in the area along with protesters.

Further emergency dispatch audio indicated that an “unknown gender” person in their 40s was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest with head trauma.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin subsequently posted a statement on social media stating:

“Today, ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism.

An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots.

He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers.

The alleged perpetrator was hit and is deceased. The ICE officers who were hurt are expected to make full recoveries.

This is the direct consequence of constant attacks and demonization of our officers by sanctuary politicians who fuel and encourage rampant assaults on our law enforcement. These men and women who are simply enforcing the law on the books are facing 1,300% increase in assaults against them and an 8,000% increase in death threats.

This is an evolving situation, and we will give the public more information as soon as it becomes available.”

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey posted on social media prior to McLaughlin’s statement saying, “I am aware of a shooting involving an ICE agent at 34th Street & Portland. The presence of federal immigration enforcement agents is causing chaos in our city. We’re demanding ICE to leave the city immediately. We stand rock solid with our immigrant and refugee communities.”

Gov. Tim Walz said in a social media post that he was being briefed on the situation.

On Wednesday afternoon, Minneapolis city officials confirmed that the individual who died was a 37-year-old white woman who was shot in the head. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said preliminary information indicates the woman was in her vehicle blocking a city street at the time of the incident.

“There is nothing to indicate that this woman was the target of any law enforcement investigation or activity,” said O’Hara. “This woman was in her car and it appears, then, blocking the street because of the presence of federal law enforcement.”

The woman has since been identified as Renee Nicole Good.

At a press conference, Frey angrily slammed ICE, saying the federal agency is “not here to cause safety in this city. What they are doing is not to provide safety in America. What they are doing is causing chaos and distrust. They’re ripping families apart. They’re sowing chaos on our streets, and in this case, quite literally killing people.”

Frey, who has long been antagonistic toward ICE, told the federal agency to “get the f–k out of Minneapolis” and said the idea that ICE was acting in self defense was “bullshit” and a “garbage narrative.”

In the wake of Wednesday’s events, protesters have gathered in Minneapolis. Both Frey and Walz have urged protesters to remain peaceful so as not to provoke a response from the federal government.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump issued a statement on social media in which he said the woman who died “ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self defense.”

The president continued, saying, “The situation is being studied, in its entirety, but the reason these incidents are happening is because the Radical Left is threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis. They are just trying to do the job of MAKING AMERICA SAFE. We need to stand by and protect our Law Enforcement Officers from this Radical Left Movement of Violence and Hate!”
