Several people were arrested overnight Monday to Tuesday following a large anti-ICE demonstration at a Maple Grove hotel that spiraled into property damage and refusal to disperse, police said.
A crowd began gathering Monday evening at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott in the Arbor Lakes area on the belief that Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Commander Gregory Bovino and other CBP agents were staying at the hotel.
Livestreams showed participants engaging in property damage as well as noise demonstrations outside the hotel.

The Maple Grove Police Department (MGPD) issued a statement late Monday night stating, in part:
“During the event, the situation escalated when individuals in the crowd engaged in unlawful behavior. Property damage occurred, and objects were thrown at officers. At that point, the activity was no longer considered peaceful. Individuals participating in criminal acts are not protected under the First Amendment and were subject to arrest.
To prevent further criminal conduct and maintain safety, a dispersal order was issued. Those who failed to comply with lawful orders or committed crimes were arrested. The Maple Grove Police Department will not tolerate illegal conduct. Several individuals were taken into custody. As of approximately 10:00 p.m., the crowd has dispersed, and officers are monitoring activity in the area.”
Online reports following that time indicated that a crowd had reformed at the hotel, and police again staged for crowd dispersal.

Maple Grove police said they were assisted in their city’s incident by the Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, Hennepin Public Order Group, the Brooklyn Park Police Department, and the City of Maple Grove Public Works and Fire Departments.
The Maple Grove arrests came a day after a Minneapolis hotel was trashed on Sunday night by rioters after Minneapolis police failed to respond for hours while the destruction ensued. Federal officers finally had to intervene in the incident and clear the crowd, during which one of the officers was injured by a heavy object that struck him in the head.
