Education Minnesota, the state’s teachers union, continues to support members of the Minnesota DFL Party and other Democrats, both ideologically and financially.
The Education Minnesota Political Action Committee (PAC) has donated $764,764 to various divisions of the Minnesota DFL this year, though Education Minnesota’s website states that it is “not affiliated with any party.”
Education Minnesota President Denise Specht has advocated for keeping schools closed this fall and has espoused left-wing political views.
“Educators are worried about the health of their students, their colleagues, and their own families. If schools are not ready to safely reopen, then distance learning should continue,” said Specht.
After the September presidential debate, Specht took to Twitter to say the U.S. is built on racism.
“You’re right, Joe Biden. Our country was built on white privilege and by racist systems,” she said.
According to its September 2020 campaign finance report, Education Minnesota’s PAC has spent $1.2 million between Jan. 1 and Sept. 15, more than half of which went to Democratic causes. The PAC gave $263,764 to the Minnesota State DFL Central Committee, $250,500 to the DFL House Caucus, and $250,500 to the DFL Senate Caucus.
In a recent report, the Center of the American Experiment pointed out that “nearly $46,000 was contributed directly to DFL candidates, with another $11,165 spent on ads for DFL candidates.”
“The Education Minnesota PAC sent $300,000 to WIN Minnesota’s PAC, which has raised around $3.5 million and spends it on campaigning, polling and other methods to elect Democrats,” said the Center’s report.

The union recently retweeted an “EducatorsforJoe” ad promoting presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Recently, educators in Minnesota have been accused of pushing a left-wing agenda. At Rosemount High, the principal said that “we truly cannot say all lives matter until black lives matter,” causing outrage among parents.
In another case, the superintendent of Hopkins Public Schools claimed that “a system of racism” pervades “throughout every aspect of our daily existence.”
One superintendent of a Minnesota school district told her teachers and staff to look for new jobs if they were “indifferent to racial equity and anti-racist work.”
