Two more defendants in the Feeding Our Future fraud scheme have pleaded guilty, including one who donated to Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison’s reelection campaign.
On Thursday, Gandi Yusuf Mohamed pleaded guilty to one count of money laundering. His brother, Suleman Yusuf Mohamed, pleaded guilty to wire fraud on April 2. Multiple other relatives pleaded guilty last month.
This specific group of defendants worked together to steal and launder a total of $14.6 million in nutrition program funds, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
In 2021, Gandi Mohamed donated $2,500 to Ellison’s campaign.
The donation was made days after Ellison participated in a meeting with various Feeding Our Future associates, the Center of the American Experiment reported. Gandi Mohamed’s sister, Ikram Yusuf Mohamed, was present at that meeting and has pleaded guilty in the same Feeding Our Future case.
According to the Center of the American Experiment, Ellison has since returned the donation from Gandi Mohamed and sent it to the Department of Justice.
U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley grilled Ellison on the $250 million scandal during a hearing in February.
“They complained to you for upwards of an hour about state investigators going after them and they begged you to help them and you agreed to it,” Hawley said, referencing a recording of Ellison’s meeting with some of the Feeding Our Future fraudsters.

Hawley then asked Ellison: “Why’d you take their money?”
Ellison replied: “I didn’t.”
“You took $10,000,” Hawley continued.
“No, that’s a false statement,” Ellison insisted.
“You’ve been right at the center of this fraud from the beginning and you’ve enabled it, and sir, you ought to resign,” Hawley concluded.
Bill Glahn, a policy fellow at the Center of the American Experiment who has closely tracked the Feeding Our Future case, highlighted the exchange between Ellison and Hawley in a recent article, noting that “Ellison appears to have lied to the United States Senate.”
