Former Minneapolis police officer Tou Thao is expected to be released from prison on Monday.

Thao, who served his time in a federal facility in Kentucky, was convicted on state and federal charges in connection to the death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020.

Two of the other officers involved, Alex Kueng and Thomas Lane, have already been released from prison, while former officer Derek Chauvin remains imprisoned.

Department of Corrections records list Monday as Thao’s anticipated release date.

In an exclusive interview with Alpha News earlier this year, Thao explained that all four officers would still be patrolling the city of Minneapolis “but for Derek being born white.”

“I’ve missed birthdays, Christmas. I don’t even know how tall they are anymore,” Thao said of his children. “Difficult to miss parts of childhood. Never get it back. All because people want to get promotions, publicity and make money.”

To help Tou Thao and his family. A fund has been set up.
