Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar joined fellow Socialist Democrats in pushing staggering increases on income taxes.
Socialist firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently proposed increased the top income tax rate to 70%. Her colleague and fellow Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar, however, is now proposing to raise the income tax to 90% in order to pay for the “Green New Deal.”
As more Democrats file to run for President, the new socialist wing of the party continues to push the party to the left. Elizabeth Warren already proposed to confiscate assets of wealthy individuals in what she calls a “wealth tax”
Currently, the wealthiest 10% of earners already pay over 70% of all federal taxes while earning less than 50% of all national income. In additional multiple academic studies show that high taxes have a significant negative impact on economic growth.
Minnesota specifically would be heavily impacted since it’s considered a least tax-friendly state even under the current rates.
