Earlier this year, President Donald Trump signed an executive order called “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports.” That order told K-12 schools and institutions of higher learning that they risk losing federal funding if they allow males to participate in female sports.
In the days that followed, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison issued a formal opinion which said that Minnesota schools would be in violation of the Minnesota Human Rights Act if they complied with the executive order, and the executive order itself does not supersede state law.
The U.S. Department of Justice repeatedly told Ellison that males competing in women’s sports is a violation of federal anti-discrimination law and the federal government would sue Minnesota if a change was not made.
As such, Ellison decided to preemptively sue the Trump Administration, alleging that the executive order was not lawful and it was an attempt to bully transgender students.
“I’m not going to sit around waiting for the Trump administration to sue Minnesota,” said Ellison at a press conference when he announced the lawsuit. “Today, Minnesota is suing him and his administration because we will not participate in this shameful bullying.”
Since then, one former Minnesota Viking has taken issue with Ellison’s lawsuit.
“Clearly, Keith Ellison, the attorney general of Minnesota, has never played any major sports,” said Jack Brewer in an interview with Fox News Digital.
“It’s like he’s never stepped foot in a real locker room, especially not one where the sport demanded true athleticism, grit and toughness,” said Brewer. “It’s embarrassing to watch a Black man stand before the nation and promote boys competing against girls.”
A former safety, Brewer spent his collegiate career playing for the University of Minnesota’s Golden Gophers before being signed by the Minnesota Vikings in 2002. Since his playing days, Brewer has become a political conservative and a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump.
“[Minnesota] has veered so far off course that it’s doing the exact opposite of what it once stood for,” said Brewer. “It used to be a national leader on Title IX and women’s rights. Now, it’s destroying women’s sports, degrading women and promoting situations where men are physically dominating women.”
“It’s heartbreaking for any former Gopher, any former Viking, any professional athlete who’s lived in that great city. It’s embarrassing. It’s shocking. And, to be honest, it’s just devastating,” added the former football player.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, the White House criticized Ellison’s lawsuit, saying “Why would a grown man sue the Trump administration to allow other biological males to participate in women’s sports? This is creepy and anti-woman.”
Alpha News reached out to the Minnesota attorney general’s office for this story but did not immediately receive a response.
