Rep-Elect Jason Lewis gives a glimpse into what voters can expect from his first term
Since his election in November, there has been a lot of speculation over what type of Representative Jason Lewis will be – Alpha News went to Minnesota’s Second Congressional District to hear from the future congressman himself.
Representative-Elect Lewis says when he gets to DC he intends to address key issues like tax reform, economic growth and the Affordable Care Act, but says that easing regulatory burdens is on the top of his list. But most importantly, he says he intends to listen.
“You have to listen to people, you have to listen to constituents, you have to listen to industry, you have to listen to the engines of economic growth to get those going again,” says Lewis, “and that’s what I’m going to try to do so we can start growing this economy and have that rising tide of hope that benefits everybody.”
Lewis says he will be looking at President-Elect Trump’s plan for his first 100 days in office through the lens of fiscal responsibility, saying, “Well I will say this, I think everything’s got to be looked at through the prism of a 20 trillion dollar national debt, of a 600 billion dollar deficit. We had record tax revenues last year, 3.25 trillion dollars, yet we have a 4 trillion dollar budget that’s going to leave our kids bankrupt.”
Congress is set to meet on January 3rd, 2017.
