The Shakopee, Minn., police department issued a statement early Wednesday saying a man had been injured in a shooting while attending a prayer service at the Canterbury Park Expo Center. An updated message on the city’s website later in the day indicated the man had died, and the incident was being investigated as a homicide.

The original police statement provided the following details:

At approximately 9:55 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, Shakopee Police officers responded to a weapons complaint at Canterbury Park. Officers found a 26-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transferred to HCMC. He was attending a prayer service at the Expo.

No information was offered by police about a potential suspect, nor any details about what have may led to the shooting.

Information and photos submitted to Crime Watch and other public information suggest the event center was hosting an Eid al-Adha event hosted by Samaha Islamic Center, also located in Shakopee. The Muslim holiday lasts three days through May 30, during which multiple Twin Cities gatherings are planned.
