Minnesota couple’s adoption battle exposes left-wing system, new documentary says

The Daily Caller reports that the couple was initially deemed not "the right fit" because they are devout Christians and one of the girls said she was "non-binary."

A St. Peter couple’s efforts to adopt three foster sisters, and their struggle with Minnesota’s child welfare system, is among the stories featured in the Daily Caller’s new documentary series, Separated: When The State Takes Your Kids.

Released earlier this month, the series follows three families fighting to “reunite with their children after child protection agencies, courts, and the foster system separate them–not for abuse or neglect, but because of their beliefs about gender.”

According to the Daily Caller, Christian families are facing “unjust obstacles” when adopting children because of their beliefs about males, females, and biological sex. The documentary examines how government officials try to force families into submitting to radical, left-wing gender ideology.

“I shouldn’t be asked to change my beliefs in order to have custody of my child,” says Jeannette Cooper in the trailer, echoing the series’ critique of left-wing gender ideology.

The third episode of Separated details Nancy and Jay Harmon, a Christian couple from St. Peter, Minn., who fostered three sisters who were abused for two years by their biological parents. When attempting to adopt the three girls, the Harmons were nearly prevented from doings so by officials who allegedly deemed the couple unfit.

The Daily Caller reports that the couple was deemed not “the right fit” because they are devout Christians and one of the girls said she was “non-binary.”

Nevertheless, the adoption was eventually approved after a private therapist issued a letter saying the adoption was in the best interests of the three girls. While the adoption did get approved, the process left “lasting scars on a good and decent family that was only trying to do the right thing,” per the Daily Caller.

“These are not isolated incidents,” states the webpage for the Separated series. “They are coordinated, ideological, and on the rise.”

The Harmons also shared their story in a video released last year by the Conscience Project.
