On June 22, 2016, Congressional Democrats held a 25 hour “sit-in” in an attempt to force the House of Representatives to vote on gun control bills. Minnesota Representatives Keith Ellison, Rick Nolan and Betty McCollum, joined group on the House Floor.
Representative Ellison joined the protest after receiving a note from a staffer saying his mom had called and told him to join the protest:
So I’m meeting with @keithellison. His scheduler walks in and hands him this note. Meeting ends 🙂 #NoBillNoBreakpic.twitter.com/JwnusZKZuo

Despite the fact that the Orlando shooter had passed all the background checks and had been investigated by the FBI in the past, Ellison also took the opportunity to argue for the gun control legislation that would expand background checks and remove Second Amendment and Due Process Rights to anyone on the “no-fly list.”
I’m staying. My speech from the House floor in its entirety. #NoBillNoBreak #HoldtheFloor #GoodTroublehttps://t.co/YMdgXbDpMe
