A Como Park High School volleyball coach is facing two counts of criminal sexual conduct after he allegedly had sex with a 15-year-old student on four different occasions.

Charging documents in the case say police spoke with the victim at the high school Thursday afternoon and she said her high school volleyball coach, 30-year-old Keng Cha, had sex with her four times between October 2022 and September 2023, including once in a parking lot behind the school.

The victim said Cha obtained her phone number through the team roster and began texting her in the summer of 2022, eventually asking her to send him nude pictures after about a month of texting.

“Their contact then progressed to having sex,” the charges say. “The sex always occurred in the backseat of Cha’s vehicle.”

In the first instance, Cha picked up the victim from her home after volleyball practice, the charges say. He was the victim’s coach for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

While officers were at the school Thursday speaking with the victim, Cha began texting her, asking, “Why haven’t you been coming to the games?” and “Did you say anything to anyone about us?”

Cha was present at the school during this time because the athletic director was terminating his employment with St. Paul Public Schools as police interviewed the victim. Cha was located and taken into custody.

In an interview with police, Cha admitted to being employed as a volleyball coach at the school and having sex with the victim between two to four times, according to court documents.

Cha’s first court appearance is scheduled for Monday morning.
