A Minnesota State Trooper was seriously injured Friday after a stolen vehicle T-boned his squad at high speed and sent the squad slamming into a house in south Minneapolis.

The trooper needed to be extricated from his vehicle after it became wedged under the porch of the house on the 4500 block of Aldrich Avenue South.

Occupants of the stolen vehicle were also seriously injured, according law enforcement statements to media.

The crash was captured live on Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher’s “Live on Patrol” streaming broadcast.

Ramsey County Deputy Pat Scott had noted earlier in the broadcast that the occupants of the stolen vehicle had been taunting police around the cities for two days and had swerved at emergency responders in one incident.

The stolen vehicle was spotted in Ramsey County on Friday evening, according to a social media statement later made on Live on Patrol’s Facebook page:

“Repeat offenders racing around the Twin Cities caused another crash last night—and almost cost a Trooper his life.

Many of you watched these events unfold last night on Live On Patrol as the stolen car was first spotted in Ramsey County by Sergeant Suchy.

The 19-year-old behind the wheel of the stolen Hyundai blew through south Minneapolis streets at speeds topping 80 mph.

Then he ran a stop sign and T-boned a Trooper.

Thankfully, the Trooper will survive.”

Available emergency dispatch audio at the time described that the occupants of the stolen vehicle also had serious injuries, including one with a broken leg.

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office later provided more details to media stating that the stolen vehicle had been spotted in the Highland Park neighborhood of St. Paul around 10:30 p.m. During an attempted traffic stop, the driver fled and crossed the Ford Parkway Bridge into Minneapolis, KARE 11 reported.

A brief pursuit ensued but was terminated after the deputy lost sight of the vehicle.

The vehicle was later spotted driving recklessly in south Minneapolis as squads again attempted to locate the vehicle with assistance from a State Patrol helicopter prior to the crash.

The 19-year-old driver was reportedly booked into custody in Ramsey County after attempting to flee on foot.

The extent of injuries to parties in the suspect vehicle was not detailed in initial law enforcement statements.

In a statement to Alpha News, a State Patrol spokesperson confirmed the serious nature of the trooper’s injuries:

“Friday night, one of our troopers was injured after being struck by a fleeing vehicle while assisting in stopping a pursuit in south Minneapolis. He was transported to the hospital and is receiving medical care. Our thoughts are with him and his family as he begins his recovery.

The Minneapolis Police Department is investigating the crash and will provide any additional details.

As far as the trooper, he sustained serious and major injuries, and we are hopeful for a full recovery.”

Alpha News will continue to follow updates on charges.
