The Center of the American Experiment recently launched a campaign to “to pressure Walz to lift his shutdown order” according to the Center’s President, John Hinderaker.
“The shutdown in Minnesota is an extreme case of the overreaction to the virus,” Hinderaker says. In response to what the Minnesota-based think tank characterizes as governmental overreach in a time of crisis, it has created a new website to send petition emails the governor. The Center also bought 10 electronic billboards around the state urging Walz to “put Minnesota back to work.”
“The hardworking people of Minnesota can be trusted to earn an honest living and protect ourselves and others from COVID-19 without a statewide stay-home mandate,” reads the new website, Back2WorkMN. “We therefore call on state leaders to allow the current stay-home order to expire on May 4th as planned, and provide citizens, businesses, and workers with the necessary tools and guidelines to allow us to safely get back to work.”
The Center also created and published a video featuring dozens of Minnesotans urging their governor to reopen the economy.
Governor Walz originally shut down the Minnesota economy in late March, however after an extension, it’s not set to reopen until May 4. However, he has indicated that this deadline may also be extended.
