Surveillance video on July 4 in Minneapolis captured what appeared to be an intentional assault on a bicyclist and his dog with a firework mortar.

Police were dispatched at about 9:20 p.m. on a report of four black males shooting fireworks at a bicyclist at 27th and Grand Avenue South in the Whittier neighborhood of Minneapolis.

Crime Watch subsequently obtained home surveillance video of the incident that showed the bicyclist with a dog ride by on 27th Avenue as the four suspects scrambled to light a firework and throw it at the cyclist and dog. Some of the suspects appeared to be recording the incident with their phones.

Information wasn’t immediately available on whether the party or dog suffered any injuries.

In an escalation of last year’s July 4 chaos, Minneapolis once again quickly descended into lawlessness as dark set in on Independence Day with mobs of juveniles shooting fireworks at police, civilians, homes, and vehicles in Dinkytown, the Mill District, Boom Island, and the south Minneapolis lakes area.

Minneapolis police were clearly overwhelmed and outnumbered by the crowds even with additional responders from Hennepin County and State Patrol.

Mobs of up to 500 were reported in the streets for hours around Bde Maka Ska (Lake Calhoun) shooting fireworks at police and vehicles and causing large disruptions.

There were also reports of several shootings including at least one homicide.

Alpha News will have more to come on the July 4 chaos.
