Leading potential Democratic candidate for President Kamala Harris continues to receive criticism for her attacks on a large Catholic fraternal organization Knights of Columbus.

The Knights of Columbus have close to 2,000,000 active members who have contributed over $177.5 million to charity and performed over 75 million in service hours in addition to other services including offering life insurance, owning assets and providing support to Christian causes.

Democrat Senator Harris implied during a recent confirmation hearing that involvement in any Catholic organization that is in line with the church teaching on abortion should be disqualifying.

Many Catholics see this is as a religious test that would force qualified candidates to choose between their faith and their occupation.

Fr. John Ubel who serves as a Rector at the Cathedral in St. Paul, Minnesota said that the characterization by leading Democrats of the Knights of Columbus as an extremist organization made his blood boil.

In the weekly bulletin of the Cathedral Fr. Ubel wrote

“Make no mistake– anti-Catholicism is making a comeback and doing so big time! It is also unquestionably the case that part of the reason is undoubtedly self-inflicted. The Church has made itself a giant target through the horrific moral failures of clerics and those in charge of oversight. But that does not excuse the rampant anti Catholicism that cloaks itself under the veneer of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s duty to advise and consent.
So let’s be clear– two U.S. Senators are openly questioning whether being a member of a fraternal Catholic lay organization that upholds Church teaching disqualifies one from being a Federal Judge. The bottom line is abundantly clear – faithful Catholics need not apply!”
