Minnesota Vikings tight end, Kyle Rudolph, made a personal donation to provide over 80,000 meals to those affected by COVID-19 in his state.
Kyle and his wife Jordan’s donation to Second Harvest Heartland will help supplement meals for children in need who normally eat school, but now may go hungry given coronavirus-induced school cancellations. Economic downturn has also resulted in widespread layoffs that may cause pantries to run empty. The Rudolph family’s generous donation should cover 82,000 meals– ten thousand times Kyle’s jersey number.
“Growing up, I never had to worry about not having meals if we didn’t have school, and that’s not the case for a lot of kids around our community,” the Vikings player told his team’s news site.
In addition to donating funds to provide meals, Kyle and his wife aim to raise $200,000 to provide 600,000 meals for Minnesota families. “Our initial donation will help give 82,000 meals for families in the Twin Cities, but we are looking for your help in providing many more,” the couple told fans, via their fundraising page.
A donation of $100 to the Rudolphs’ fund will feed a family of four for a month, reports the Vikings website.
Three other Minnesota football players have also donated to support their communities amidst the COVID-19 epidemic.

Special thanks to @athielen19, @MRS_T_19 and The Thielen Foundation for their $25,000 donation to support kids who are aren’t able to access school meals during COVID-19 closures.
